Week 5 NFL Surprise: Broncos Upset Eagles while Bills Succumb to Patriots

The last two unbeaten squads in the NFL saw their perfect records shattered during week five as the Philadelphia Eagles along with Buffalo Bills suffered surprising losses on their own turf.
Denver's football team evolved from dark horses to headline-makers following an spectacular rallying win against the reigning Super Bowl title holders Philadelphia, before hopping on a flight for this Sunday's London contest.
New England's squad then traveled to Buffalo and halted the Bills' undefeated start with an impressive victory of their own in their initial national television appearance in twelve months.
The Baltimore Ravens suffered a third consecutive defeat - their defensive unit's struggles could be fatal for their play-off aspirations - while Dallas, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit Lions enjoyed decisive victories on another eventful Sunday.
Denver Downs Champions
Not only was it defeating the reigning title holders, but the manner of their comeback from 14 points down that made Denver's 21-17 victory in Philadelphia such a defining success.
Philadelphia had secured 10 games in a row, 12 straight on home turf and 20 of their last 21 total before Denver's signal-caller Bo Nix engineered two touchdowns in five fourth-quarter minutes and a late field goal.
The Eagles are currently 4-1 but there is significant concern about their offensive unit, which ranks as the poorest performing in the NFL. Receiver DaVonta Smith says they are not "on the same page" with QB Jalen Hurts.
Denver's defence, which tackled Hurts six times, had much to contribute with the outcome, and, together with a genuine franchise quarterback in Nix and top head coach in Sean Payton, they have all the ingredients to launch a serious challenge.
Denver face the New York Jets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Primetime Patriots Upset Bills
Should the Broncos' victory was somewhat anticipated, nobody saw New England traveling to Buffalo and defeating Josh Allen's Bills, but they did so with tremendous resilience.
Their initial national television appearance for the rookie quarterback produced a breakout performance as he directed a game-winning scoring drive in the dying seconds to win 23-20.
Maye was resilient and made the right throws at the right times, many to ex-Buffalo wideout Stefon Diggs, who had an outstanding performance for Mike Vrabel's side.
The head coach was anticipated to turn things around in New England, but such a significant victory arrived earlier than many predicted.

New England's defensive squad contained Buffalo's offensive efforts during their surprising road victory.
Ravens Play-off Dreams Dashed?
This campaign is becoming a nightmare for the Ravens, who were missing multiple defensive stars as they were hammered 44-10 by Houston's team.
It matched their biggest loss at home, and falling to 1-4 for the season means among the pre-season Super Bowl favourites have only a slim chance of making the postseason.
Baltimore are now 4-11 when missing star QB Lamar Jackson, who was hurt, but the real issue is an exceptionally poor defensive unit that is the primary concern - for a franchise that have been synonymous with stout defense over the years.
The Texans strolled to victory as Baltimore became the initial squad in the Super Bowl era to allow at least 37 points in four of their first five games. Their campaign is already over.
Detroit, Tampa and Indianapolis Go 4-1
Detroit's backfield tandem Gibbs and Montgomery scored six points in one contest for the fourteenth occasion - a joint NFL mark - as Detroit defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 37-24.
The win made it four victories consecutively for the highest-scoring team Detroit, but not one against teams with a winning record.
A more surprising 4-1 team are Indianapolis. With their star running back running in a hat-trick in their 40-6 hammering of the Las Vegas Raiders and quarterback Daniel Jones appearing as a new man, they will be a difficult opponent for any team.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined the 4-1 club with a thrilling 38-35 win in Seattle in which the sides exchanged nine touchdowns in 10 impressive drives before the Seahawks faltered initially with a late interception.
Chase McLaughlin booted the game-winner with the final play of the game for his second occasion this year. Each of the Bucs' wins have been secured in the last minute.
Saints and Titans Get Help for Initial Victories
The way New Orleans and Tennessee began this campaign, they needed help to secure their initial victories, and they got plenty due to several comical mistakes from New York and Arizona Cardinals.
After a good start from New York rookie Jaxson Dart, New York made five turnovers - including one crucially taken back for six points - while also allowing Rashid Shaheed to score on an 87-yard catch and run as New Orleans won 26-14.
Arizona were more disastrous as they squandered a 21-3 lead mainly due to two massive mistakes.
First, Emari Demercado inexplicably dropped the ball moments before reaching the end zone for a long touchdown.
Worse followed when the Cardinals picked off Cam Ward close to their end zone, then fumbled the ball across the goal line for Tyler Lockett to recover as Tennessee snapped a ten-contest losing streak with a 22-21 win.

The receiver registered one of the most farcical touchdowns we'll see this season.
That left the Jets as the sole victory-less team remaining in the NFL after their punishing 37-22 defeat by the Cowboys.
The quarterback became the first player in NFL history to surpass 4K through the air and 1K on the ground in his initial twenty professional contests as he came back from being hurt to guide the Washington Commanders to an impressive 27-10 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers.
Rico Dowdle was the star man for Carolina with 206 rushing yards in their thrilling 27-24 win over Miami.
