Indian Women's Team Overcome Bug Invasion to Sail to Chilly Victory Over Pakistani Rivals in Women's World Cup

The seam bowler Goud and the spinner Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets each as the Indian side routed their opponents by 88 runs in their World Cup match, which began like recent ones between the men’s national sides with no handshake from the skippers and later included a disputed run-out of a Pakistan opener.

The Indian captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, declined to shake hands with Sana during the toss and the teams departed without post-match pleasantries after the match amidst political tensions between the two neighboring nations.

The captains at the men’s Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates similarly avoided handshakes at games between India and Pakistan. Indian authorities have alleged Pakistan of having involvement in attacks on tourists that killed dozens.

Game Overview

Losing the toss, they were all out for 247 in their allotted overs. The opening pair, Rawal and star player Mandhana, put on 48 for the opening stand before Sana had Mandhana leg before wicket for a 32-ball 23. She made 31 before she was bowled by the left-arm spinner Iqbal. The captain scored 19 runs before she was caught behind off Diana Baig.

Harleen Deol top-scored for India with 46 and Richa Ghosh made a quick-fire 35 not out to boost their side to a respectable score.

Jemimah Rodrigues (32), Deepti (25) and Sneh Rana (20) all made useful runs, while Baig took 4/69 for Pakistan and Iqbal and Sana had two wickets apiece. The match was halted for 15 minutes because bugs were troubling the cricketers.

Pakistan Batting

Pakistan were dismissed for 159 runs in 43 overs. Sole fifty of the game in Colombo came from Amin, who made 81 runs.

The opening wicket was lost in a confusing manner when the opening batter Muneeba Ali was adjudged run out. Ali had grounded her bat after getting back, having stepped out to attempt a stroke. Her bat was then seen to be lifted when an India throw hit the stumps. The captain argued with the official that the batter was not attempting a run but the decision stood.

Amin’s 106-ball innings included a six and nine fours. The seamer took 3/20 and Sharma returned 3/45.
